Taiping comes from the Chinese word Tai-Peng which means ETERNAL PEACE.(I quote from other blog)...when u come to visit Taiping, you'll know how & why that word suit for the place...we entered Taiping @ about 6.30pm from Bagan Serai...we were awing by beautiful colonial shop-houses and serene lakeside...

Saturday:

We checked-in at Furama Hotel...the hotel located near Taiping Lake...the name may sound like Japanese-Chinese word fusion, but the condition is nice & clean...the Furama people are friendly & helpful...after we had our solat, we planned to have dinner @ Kuala Sepetang which is not that far from Taiping...i’ll explain more on Kuala Sepetang in the next entry...

Our trip more likely a gastronomic/heritage journey...back from Kuala Sepetang @ 8.00, we were planning to go to Doli (famous kueteow goreng in Taiping)...but God, we were already full...so we’ve decided to do a city-tour to experience Taiping @ night...accidently, without any sense of direction, we arrived at Taiping Train Station...we took some photos there and later we got thirsty...across the railway building, there is a row of food stalls...we had our drinks & late supper there...it was a great meal...we had roti canai, putu mayam & teh tarik (typical mamak menu) @ restoran berkat...the restaurant itself is a heritage legacy, we think because it looks and feel like good old days...we give this late supper-experience with 6 thumbs up(because there were 3 of us)...

PUTU MAYAM - THE BEST EVER...

THE LAST MEAL OF THE DAY < GREAT>
TAIPING TRAIN STATION - UNDER CONSTRUCTION

WARONG BERKAT HAJI IBRAHIM - ACROSS TRAIN STATION

We heard about the famous night safari @ Zoo Taiping...actually we didn’t plan about going there at all...we manage to enter the parking area only because we happened to be at Taiping Lake Garden...we were totally tired & got back to hotel...arrived in front of Furama, there was a small karaoke fiesta nearby...i think it was Chinese family or society celebration...they sang a Malay song but in Chinese language...sound interesting & entertaining...

TAIPING ZOO

Sunday:

we checked out early that morning...planned to have breakfast @ Bismillah...it is famous mamak eatery @ Taiping...the building itself shows its reputation...it was already packed with customer when we arrived...it was a different feeling from any mamak eatery i've been before...although it quite narrow and hassle with staff & customer, i didn't felt uncomfortable...

THE ONE & ONLY - BISMILLAH RESTAURANT
TEA LADY
AUTHENTIC 'TEH TARIK' WITH ITS COMPANIONS - ROTI CANAI
the best thing about teh tarik here is they use original authentic cow's milk...tasty & unforgettable...from where we were sat, we saw a woman preparing the milk...we ate roti kosong, roti telor, half boiled eggs and the famous daging masak hitam (only the gravy)...it was heavenly delicious...we gave 5/5 stars...

MEAT SECTION
TAIPING WET MARKET
NON-HALAL SECTION
across the road from Bismillah, there is a an old wet market...it was like 'heart' of Taiping...everybody was there to be part of it...next to it was a clock tower...the landscape is well maintain...there were sections of market...fish...meat & vegetables...non-halal product...food court...all in walking distance...we kept walking around the town...inspired by its architecture...felt honored to be part of this heritage...

BUKIT LARUT @ MAXWELL HILL
GREEN WALK
AFTER A  WHILE HIKING, 8KM MORE TO GO TO THE TOP...NO!!!
next stop is "Maxwell Hill" or "Bukit Larut"...it was quite an incredible place...there is a 4WD service to go to the top of hill...little that we knew that it was a long journey...we came late so the tickets were sold out...we decided to hike while enjoying the nature...but we surrendered...we had to get moving to other place...
